The need to maintain a social distance of 2 metres in England is being actively reviewed, the government has announced. Boris Johnson said it is the right time to reassess the rules, as the number of coronavirus cases continues to fall. It’s understood that a decision will be taken before July 4th, which is when restaurants and pubs could open in England. Any decision to relax the 2 metre measure would be controversial. Estimating the increased risk from reducing social distancing is a complex process. Meanwhile many more shops in England selling good regarded as non-essential are re-opening. However the pandemic has accelerated the shift towards online shopping and more traditional stores are likely to close for good.
